Calvin Richardson, the new soul prince, is a man who has seen it all. With a first appearance back in 1995 as the lead singer of R&B group Undacova and as solo artist, with two full albums and a Grammy nomination (Best single for More than a Woman, featuring Jill Scott) in his pocket, he now releases to regain his title with the release of his third CD, When love Comes. When love Comes is a 13 track album on which the Prince continues to walk the paths of R&B and soul music and again proves he is an artists capable of creating the most intimate , sensual grooves as well as songs that flow on an addictive hook and become quite 'party - able' in that way. Nevertheless, When love Comes turns out to be great collection of quality music. Sexy Love immediately is a mind blowing cut, boombastic choruses (not too overwhelming though) and a very catchy horn hook to evolve in a real floor filler. With Holla at You, Calvin returns to his old school R&B roots ... great backings, a sensual flow and damn sexy. talking about sensuality, Fire in the Attick stands as pure poetry. 'I wanna play you like Santana plays the strings on his guitar', nuff said I guess. On please you Baby, Richardson shows another side of his sensitive self with his opinion about soul artists and major record labels. 'Soul artists should not sign with major record companies as they don't know what to do with them.' Painful, but coming from someone who has walked the road, certainly a statement to think about. Other highlights on When love Comes for me are Don't Go, 'the strength of an athlete with a touch so gentle that it brought Hercules to his knees' , about the empowering touch of a woman, title track When love Comes and the first single, Sang no More with a delicious old school doo - wop flavour. With When love Comes, Calvin Richardson is ready to mount his throne again. A high quality product, musically diverse, perfect vocals and outstanding lyricism. For fans of pure, sensual R&B and soul music, this is a must have album.
