When I was doing the interview with Stuart Wade the other day I asked him : 'Everybody seems to love funk, but no one seems to know funk." When I hear the kids and fans these days, they're all talking about funky, because funky is hip and a cool word to use. Now let me say this once ... if you're searching for that somewhat magical word and you want to experience a perfect mix between the funk of James Brown, Maceo, George Clinton and Bootsy, Down to the Bone's Supercharged is an essential step in your journey, combining old school funk and nu school, driven by a fantastic 'Tower of Powerish' horn section and an elite of musicians. In over ten years, Down to the Bone's music has been mainly instrumental and so far they've delivered dozens of dancefloor killers such as Yo mama's so Phat, Hammerhead and Latin Sagebrush. Supercharged, in that way is no exception as the album consists of 75% funky, groovy instrumentals. The evolution though, I guess, is in the consistency of the jams. Where, on former releases, there always were some highlights, Supercharged is filled with a treasure of monstrously compositions, proving that Stuart Wade and the band keep widening their musical perception and keep polishing, perfecting that funky feeling. Along the musical tracks, Down to the Bone also welcomes some guest vocalists/musicians. Smile to Shine features the fantastic voice of Hil St. Soul while Corrina Greyson brings it on during Shake it Up, a couple of fabulous acid jazzy grooves. Roy Ayers, on the other hand is enriching Electric Vibes with his legendary vibraphone sound into a marvelous, funky feast. Over all these years, Down to the Bone has been a guarantee for quality and craftsmanship. Blowing old school fans away with their ever improvement and drawing new fans with their addictive sound. As always, Supercharged is a must have for funkateers around the world. Again highly recommended.
