Interview with Eclectik Soul

JazzandSoul : Eclectik Soul is a relatively new Neo-Soul band. Can you shortly describe the band and the music you play?

ES : "Eclectik Soul" is just what our name says, "eclectic". We have so many different styles that it is difficult to place us in one genre. Our music can be described as pure soul music that inspires hope for real life situations.

JazzandSoul : It seems that religeon is important for you. How did it influence your music?

ES : We all grew up in very spiritual families, so we were taught at early ages what it means to have faith and to perservere through adversities. The majority of our songs are uplifting songs because we have all been through struggles, but have overcome them all. We want others to be encouraged through our music.

JazzandSoul : Which other bands/ artists inspired Eclectik Soul on the this record?

ES : There are so many that it is hard to choose! Mint Condition- You can never predict what they are going to do next because they stay so "out of the box". Fertile Ground has been an inspiration because they have so many elements of sound in their music. These are just two of our favorites out of so so many artists/ bands that have inspired us.

JazzandSoul : This is your first album and selling both at home and abroad. Did you expect this and how do you guys try to promote your work?

ES : We knew that we had support at home (Jackson, MS, USA) after the turnout of hundreds of people at our album release party, but we didn't expect to get international exposure so soon! We have tried several avenues for promoting our work such as sponsoring our own concerts (3 to be exact), uploading to many websites, contacting radio stations, word-of-mouth, and the ole "selling out of our trunks". You have to get out there and pound the pavement!

JazzandSoul : We see new albums from independent soul artists everyday. How do you try to make a difference with ES in this giant pool of new bands and releases?

ES : We feel that we are "edutainers" and not just "entertainers". We want our songs to not just make your body move, but to move your soul in a way that changes your life. Our songs have a message in them that can apply to all ages.
