"If you haven't picked it up yet, get it."
"A very nice debut indeed." 1. Atomic Peas
A new debut album that has recently hit the streets is Funkatized
by German groovemasters Deegee and En Bee.
Main characteristic features on this CD are 'good groove', catchy
riffs and a minimum of repetitive vocals and choruses.
Most of the tracks easily catch you in a smooth swinging mood
with Atomic Peas, Funkatized and Get the Funk as earcatchers.
Our Berlin friends clearly learned their lessons from acid jazz
music and surely have been influenced by bands such as
The Brand New Heavies and Jamiroquai (which make quite some
cool references, not?).
The music itself is heavily dominated by the smooth, greasy sound
of the Fender Rhodes and as mentioned before, draws you to the
dancefloor with ease.
My favourite track on this joint definitely is Let me Know, and as
the total package certainly is a very nice debut indeed, sometimes
some more vox in the tracks would lift them to a higher level.
Mostly categorized as R&B and soul, we would like to place it as
acid jazz, funk and electro.
Nice little extra, if you buy the album, you're entitled to download
an extra bonus track through the Funkatized website.
Certainly worth a listen.
