Interview with Jaguar WrightJazzandSoul : It’s been 4 years since divorcing Neo 2 marry soul. What has Jaguar Wright been up to ? Jaguar Wright : Well, I've been up to a lot; just not all music related. I've been dealing with a difficult divorce for years, lending as much help as I could dealing with my late fathers' demise, laying my father to rest as of this passed July, writing and finishing my novel, and writing as well as nearly completing my third studio album amongst other things. JazzandSoul : You have released 2 full albums. Tell us, when can we expect new material. And what can we expect. Jaguar Wright : Well, as previously mentioned, the third studio album is almost done. I've been working with Karma productions out of Philly, and the work is turning out beautiful; which also happens to be the name of first single we've released to the public on my MYSPACE page (www.myspace.com/jaguarwright). You should all expect to feel the growth in all I do, but please don't think I've hampered that flame-filled Philly girl for one minute. She is very much a part of this work, but I have learned how to use her more effectively throughout the years. Trust and believe she is just as relevant as the woman I've grown to be. JazzandSoul : You have been here for quite some time now. Do you notice any significant change in soul music ? Jaguar Wright : Well, soul music these days has managed to become the appetizer, when once upon a time it used to be the meal. The market place no longer recognizes its relevance in the commercial world, and has pushed it aside like room temperature chicken satay; rather than embracing it like a hot fried chicken dinner with all the trimmings as they use to. It was our fault for letting this happen, we should've been better caretakers of such a special gift. When it became more popular to be famous than it did to actually be talented, you heard the quality of soul records drop just a little bit. Maybe since no one was listening, the records lost their spiritual nutritional value; due to neglect of course. JazzandSoul : Tell us a bit about the birth of your songs. Do you go into the studio with a full arrangement in mind, or do your musicians take your idea into new dimensions ? Jaguar Wright : All of my records are done solely between me and the producer. Either I heard something they played that was inspiring or there's something in my head we feel is good enough to build on. That's it. I've always insisted that my projects be guided by the Muse.
