The Urban Retropolitan Movement is the brainchild of Neal Conway (who has cranked hits such as Gypsy Woman "She's Homeless" (Crystal Waters), Rejoicing (Ultra Naté), ...). A project featuring artists such as Robyn Romele, Dana Weaver, and Marshall Booze. Love like That and Stop & Go, both smooth, mid - tempo jams, open the doors into this collection of fourteen neo - soul, lounge, jazz, disco and spoken word fusions. In Urban Bossanova and Co - co Cold, two slow loungy tracks, a nice relaxing vibe is created with timbalas, flute, sax, guitar, strings and vibraphone. Neal even takes the vocal credits on Urban Bossanova while Monica Jefferson stars in Co - co - Cold. The nice thing about The Urban Retropolitan Movement truly is the difference in flavours. There's an easy switch between the contemporary funky vibes in Boozin' 2008, the soothing, sensual soulish sound of A Drive (a heavily addictive and original beat here), the acid - jazzy "Incognito - ish" atmosphere of When the world gets in the Way and the dancefloor - killing beats of Afro's Philly Funk. Neal Conway probably won't win any originality awards with his Urban Retropolitan Movement project but all tracks certainly are high above average quality. An extra mention for Obama's Theme, a political statement build around live quotes and sculptured into a fantastic peace of music. The Urban Retropolitan Movement serves as a CD with a magnificent production, good voices and an appealing blend of Neal's experience in music. Certainly a recommended album.
