Tracking new and gifted soul talent, promoting independent artists through his show on Solar Radio, we're talking about Phil Driver. With his latest Soul Unsigned EP concept, Mr. Driver is collecting, what he believes, tracks that need to be heard from a couple of bands that either have no formal recording contract or are operating out of small independent record companies. Need to say ... much respect for these projects. EP:001 and EP:002 both contain 4 tracks of soulful, funky, good vibe grooves. Opener on EP:001 is Groove's back Productions', Blow your Mind. A melodic laid back funky tune that's also featured on the Vibes from the inner Garden album. Excellent Gentlemen continues that groovy vibe with a catchy, greasy reverse funk sound while London producer Felix Wright is taking it slower with a kind of retro soul cut. Deep grooves and emphasis on the sexy vocals ... a fabulous slow jam. Final track from London band Harambé concludes it with an apposite opening line, "You can't stop me getting funky all night long, it's in the bone", what more to say and a perfect ending to a super collection of gems and undiscovered pearls. But that's not all folks ... EP:001 is the appetizer, EP:002 is the main course.

This second release immediately opens with an amazing track from Moses Mayes, a damn phuncky base lick in this one, 80's keyboard sounds, heavenly vocals and a great trumpet break. A highly danceable track with hitpotential. Our Spanish friends from Mothergroove also feature on this second disc with their typical melodic funky sounds that always have reminded me a bit of freakpower. Love what you Do, a somewhat slower jam carries a bit of that old school acid jazz feel, wahwah guitar, a great vocal and spacey effects. The honor of finalizing EP:002 is for Lisa Couto & Most People. According to the credits, this song is from 2000, but it certainly stood the test of time as it still sounds modern and contemporary. By collecting these kind of tunes, we hope that Phil will be able to reach a big audience that will discover this great music. We at www.jazzandsoul.eu will sure support this concept and we can't wait for the next release. Both highly recommended !
