After a year of intensive work, Phil Driver’s project Soul Unsigned, releases a first full album. For all of you JazzandSoulers who aren’t familiar with Phil’s concept … Soul Unsigned triest o collect the most promising and best unsigned soul artists from around the globe, giving them exposure through the Soul Unsigned network (website, EP and CD releases and radio shows).
The first two Soul Unsigned EP’s (EP:001 | EP:002) were received very positive by the public, so time pointed to be right to ‘feed the fans’ a full album with undiscovered gems. The Volume 1 CD contains 14 tracks, and so delivers almost an hour of the best soul, funk and acid jazz tracks that featured on the Soul Unsigned radio shows. Now, some of the bands and artists here also feature don the Soul unsigned EP’s. So there’s a pleasant ‘meet – again’ with Groove’s Back, Excellent Gentlemen, Harambé, Moses Mayes and Mothergroove, with some new tracks on the CD (especially the Moses Mayes cut is phat and slammin’). Newcommers on Volume 1 include Kre8iV 4ce, Al Campos and the fantastic Dreemtime, just to name a few. The most important thing to say is that the Soul Unsigned concept deserves tob e a huge success. 14 quality tracks, 14 superb bands, 14 new pearls to discover and explore … all on one fantastic album. What more can you ask for. My gut feeling tells me we haven’t seen the last of this fabulous series and we at www.jazzandsoul.eu can hardly wait for Volume 2 to be released.
