Interview with TopTrack Award winners 2008 - Talking Loud

JazzandSoul : First of all, congratulations on winning the TopTrack Award 2008. How do you feel about winning this award ?

Talking Loud : Thank u, we're very excited about the award. To be nominated with such great international artists was already an honor, but to actually win by votes from the public is really awesome! It shows that people really like our music and that we're on the right track!

JazzandSoul : Tell us ... who is Talking loud ? How did you guys get started ?

Musiex : Talking Loud consists of Musiex,leadsinger/writer and Remi, guitarist/producer and live we play with a full 7-piece band. Though we've met at the Conservatory and have been working together since 2003, it feels like Talking Loud really got serious by the end of 2006 when we decided that we wanted to make our first EP. From that moment on we wrote new material and we're determined and focussed to put Talking Loud on the map.

JazzandSoul : What are Talking Loud songs all about ? What inspires you guys and is there a specific message you want to share ?

Musiex : Haha well, that answer may sound cliche but as a writer, the only way I can really feel the songs is if they're autobiographic. So either I've experienced it, or Remi or family/friends. But yeah, of course our music is about love and life. At the end of the day life is about love in all it's good or bad forms. Though in most of our songs we like to keep it positive, they're not all lighthearted. Music can be very therapeutic, so past relationships gone wrong or other bad choices are also subjects. With our music we try to combine all our influences in a sound that brings the old with the new. Not making any concessions and reflecting exactly what we want and who we are.

JazzandSoul : With Talking Loud, you played quite some 'big' festivals. Do you notice that Talking Loud attracts a specific kind of audience or is there a big variation ?

Musiex : In the past we've worked as solo musicians with other projects and with those bands we played on most big festivals. It's a misinterpretation we get a lot. :-) For Talking Loud it's just getting started since we launched our EP in 2008. Last year we had the chance to play with our band on festivals like Uitmarkt and Pure Jazz for instance, which are both different festivals. Our music is so eclectic from Soul to Hiphop to Rock that we don't have a specific audience. We like that and hopefully our audience likes that diversity too.

Remi : Yes, that's the fun with music you can reach everybody because it's about feel. Sometimes we see a rocker bouncing on a midtempo soul/hiphop orientated track or a jazzlover enjoying a steamy rocktrack.
