Starting as a pop pioneer for the Motown stable, Marvin Gaye became the prince of 60s soul through a string of hit records including "It Takes Two", "Ain’t No Mountain High Enough" and "How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You", before his later releases chronicled the cultural and political changes of the time. “What’s Going On”, “Mercy Mercy Me” and “Inner City Blues” reflected on the turbulent issues of the period and struck a chord with his audience. This speical collection combines Marvin Gaye's early 1960s Motown work with his later 1970s/80s classic soulful repertoire.
